Join us tonight for our September Chapter Meeting! Join us tonight for our September Chapter Meeting! LDC member Aya Kinoshita will be teaching us how to create a Mandala mosaic design for our Make & Take project.  Aya is a mosaic artist living in Lancaster, PA.  She is originally from Tokyo, Japan.  She has enjoyed working with visual and performing artists and also researching and teaching about art management and cultural anthropology.  Since 2016, she has been making mosaics and made multiple mosaic murals for Penn State Medical Centers in and around Lancaster.
Wednesday, May 8th @ 7pm is Lancaster Designer Cra Wednesday, May 8th @ 7pm is Lancaster Designer Craftsmen’s next chapter meeting. For the May make and take project, Tara Potter will show us how to create a wet felted stone. Hope to see you there!

Donna Lashof - Plaster Botanical Plaques Make & Take - We'll be creating a plaster plaque impression of your favorite flower, leaf or herb. Bring your own plant material or choose from some brought by the instructor.
 
Grant Presentation - Ruth Daniels will do her Grant Award Presentation.
 
Show & Tell - Bring a few samples of your work to share with other members!
Reminder! Tonight, Wednesday, February 14, is our Reminder! Tonight, Wednesday, February 14, is our February Chapter Meetjng! Lisa Haldeman will be doing a Needle Felting Make & Take - Lisa will be teaching us how to make a heart cupcake using the needle felting technique.  This is a wonderfully therapeutic and versatile craft that allows you to create any number of shapes and designs using just felting needles, a felting mat, and wool.  Also, Margaret Seidenberg-Ellis will do her Grant Presentation. See you at 7!
A big “thank you!” to LDC member Bob Redcay wh A big “thank you!” to LDC member Bob Redcay who taught a Painting on Leaves Make & Take during our January chapter meeting. LDC members painted 1-2 leaves and then mounted on a mat board.  Bob began painting on preserved leaves with acrylic paints approximately 20 years ago after reading an article in “Birds and Blooms” magazine about an artist who used leaves as canvases.  Thank you, Bob!

We're excited to welcome members of the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen to Campus of History Cheer this Saturday! Local artisans with talents from stained glass to weaving to jewelry making will set up shop in our Carriage House for you to have the opportunity to support small businesses while getting some holiday shopping done. 🛍️ Catch these marvelous makers from 5-7pm during Campus of History Cheer at LancasterHistory on Saturday, Dec 2. Tickets to the event are available online or at the door!

6:30-6:50 p.m. -  Presentation by Karen Peiffer (PGC Board President) on the PGC organizational structure & Introduction of our new Executive Director, Eric Dusenbery

7:00-8:30 p.m. - Exciting presentation by Michelle Veizaga on Using your Smartphone to photograph your work. She will provide information and tips on staging photos, use of grey card, lighting, and smartphone settings, etc. for various craft mediums. 

We will then have a smartphone photo critiquing session followed by Q&A.

At our first partnership event with the Landis Valley Museum, Don Robinson gave a very interesting presentation on the history of the slate industry in Pennsylvania and did a slate splitting demonstration.  It was a great opportunity to meet LVM's Board, some of their members, as well as other community attendees.
Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, in collaborat Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, in collaboration with the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen presents a free program on 14 June at 7:00 pm on the history of the slate industry in Pennsylvania and the United States and the uses of slate.  The program is followed by a demonstration. The program is free, no reservations required and will be in the Yellow Barn. There will be signs to direct you to the building.

Mr. Don Robinson, of the Old Line Museum in Delta, PA, will present on the history of the slate industry, historic uses of slate, the immigration of Welsh quarrymen, and contemporary preservation efforts of related slate industry structures in Coulsontown, Pennsylvania. The presentation will be followed with a demonstration on slate splitting and shaping. If you are brave, you can try your hand at shaping slate!
